Continuing My Mongering Travelogue Through Three Countries
Kiev final part, A Sweltering Hot Sunday.
Waking up on my last morning in Kiev with a not used to hangover and not bothering with the hotel breakfast I got up at my leisure mid morning, enjoying instead a cheese toasted sandwich with coffee on the hotel terrace while I checked and answered a few emails. Apart from some more walking later no doubt, which I enjoy a lot, nothing was planned, I would take things as they came and that’s just how I like it. Continue reading Expensive Wank In Kiev Ukraine→
The next day in Kiev I rose early to first check out the hotel breakfast offerings before it got too crowded but not really fancying anything as nothing looked appealing to me, the breakfast was pretty basic really, I just had a coffee and sitting at a large table all to myself I finished planning the rest of my day which would take in the State Aviation Museum, giving me a feel of the cold war, before doing a bit more Kiev sightseeing. Thinking of dinner I decided to celebrate the first night of my holiday in Kiev with a bit of style and have dinner in Vapiano, in the Arena City complex. Continue reading Threesome in Kiev Ukkraine→
Monger Matt Conquers Central Asia and Eastern Europe
All work and no play is enough to drive anyone mad. After being very ill with that very nasty flu virus thing over the Christmas period leaving me weak and feeling too unwell to even think about travel even though I had at one point considered a quick short break getaway to hopefully sunny Cyprus if the fare was right at the time, and grinning (not) and bearing another British and quite frankly total washout long Easter Bank holiday weekend recently where it did nothing but rain, constantly, the spring time Monger inside of me was saying enough is enough – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Just to recap: Would I recommend Kiev as a good mongering destination? For somewhere completely different my answer is yes and for Ukraine which has recently joined the economic part of the EU, Kiev is still remarkably inexpensive with affordable taxis both in the city and to and from the airport. From the Mission Control Smokers corner the first site I went into was relax kiev and the connection was still slow taking ages for the pages to load. Here there were pages of girls with pictures with telephone contact details starting from 300 (not 3000!!) UAH per hour. After going back to the room to get a pen and some paper to jot down some of the number it was then time to put those free calls from the telephone in the room to the test and every number I called I got the same message – ‘We are unable to connect you to this number.’ They then must have been all premium numbers then, blocked by the hotel. Yes, handed to me on a plate…
Hearing me shutting the door to the room both girls turned around and the same taller dark, dark hair one who I recognized as the one who pressed herself up against me in the lift had I thought the bigger bootylicious arse of the two. Both smiled and I quite fancied the other one as well with blonde hair, wearing the white tighter leggings despite having smaller tits than ‘Moschino T-shirt’.
Carrying on, and still grinning a little after that experience in No Taboo, I eventually came to the vast concrete piazza Maidan Nezalezhnosti (or Independence Square) with an impressive 200 foot high column with a figurine of a woman on top holding a rose branch in her arms as the square’s main prominent centerpiece, gracefully lit up at night, and on the other side of the road the square continued with interesting looking tallish Soviet buildings lit up and standing alone including another McDonalds I saw in the distance. Reaching the outskirts of Kiev in the airport taxi and the start of the main rush hour traffic brought to home that I really was experiencing a foreign city in a foreign country. The diverse architecture, the Cyrillic script and advertising, the shops and restaurants lit up in the late afternoon gloom, this is a real Russian (Ukrainian) City so different from what I’m used to at home and what makes travelling to a new place so interesting and stimulating. Kiev has a hilly side to it too, in parts, but the start to KhreshchatykStreet part where I was staying was thankfully flat. Continue reading Mongers travelogue Kiev Ukraine→
Tune going through my head right now, all my bags are packed, I’m ready to go…Cause I’m leavin on a jet plane…. Leavin on a Jet plane is one of my favorite songs and that will be me tomorrow morning, hopefully nice and early ‘As the dawn is breakin’ it’s early morn’, heading to, as we say in north London, to the dreaded Gatwick airport, dreaded because it is such a pig shit of a place to get to by road at the best of times.
