After my relaxing walk along Kololi beach and back through Bijilo forest I decided I would spend the day chilling in and around the Senegambia hotel. At 11:30AM every day in the Senegambia they feed the vultures. Vultures from all over Gambia gather at the Senegambia for some free lunch…

My day times in Gambia and Kololi were starting to take on a structure, I was getting up at 7AM and down to the breakfast hall in the Sarjes hotel where I was alone and if I was lucky could fill my plate up with hot sausages, baked beans and freshly baked bread. After breakfast I would walk through the Kairaba hotel to Kololi beach for a morning walk….

After a nice day relaxing by Kololi beach, that night I head back down the Senegambia in the direction of the Wow bar and the Wow girls.
I stop off in a few bars and the waitresses are so friendly, very forward, offering to give you their phone numbers, telling you when their day off is. I guess they are keen to supplement their meagre wages with a short term tourist boyfriend.

After walking the Wow bargirl back, I return to Sarjes hotel to sample their breakfast. Bed and breakfast is included in the price. Breakfast at Sarjes is from 7AM until 10PM. I enter the buffet hall and the hotel cat is on the table helping himself to the salami, when the cat sees me he makes a quick exit. I wont be touching the salami and report it to the hotel staff.

Checked my girl from the WOW bar into Sarjes hotel, where I was staying. There is a joiner fee at Sarjes of 700 Dalasi. The security guard checked her ID and signed her in. The legal age in the Gambia is 18, this African girl told me she was 23. She looked a cute and a little younger.

Im heading back up through the Kairaba and along the little stretch of road called the SeneGambia otherwise known as the strip. At the bottom of the strip is the SenGambia hotel, the first hotel in Kololi and hence the name. The strip is packed with mostly restaurants for all the tourists and a few bars, nightclubs etc.

I notice quite a few women around Sarjes hotel, old and ugly mostly even a couple of butch lesbian types, some with African men. Gambia like many African and Caribbean resorts has its fair share of female sex tourism. Oh well, live and let live, this was something I would need to get use to and accept, just goes to show underneath they are not much different from their men folk.

The flight to Gambia or Bangul airport was from Gatwick London and flying with Monarch leaving at 9:30AM. The flight is 6 hours which is not too long another good thing about taking a vacation in this part of West Africa. Even so I paid a premium for extra legroom. Dinner on the flight was included in the package but any drinks or snacks you had to pay for.

From a UK perspective, there is a great site with loads of money saving tips and a really good section on saving money for travel. Its here I learn about credit cards that you load up with your own cash that give the best exchange rate for using a card and never block as its only your own money. As my holiday to Gambia was a package deal I read the articles on getting the cheapest package deals

Before travelling to somewhere exotic like Gambia in West Africa the travel advice is to visit your doctor 8 weeks before you leave. The doctor will then determine by country what vaccinations you may need. The last time I saw the doctor relative to travel was early 2002 when I visit Goa in India, which was my first trip to the third world, where I was expected to take anti malaria tablets daily.

Been considering a return to Africa for a few years now as mongering in other parts of the world has become too commercialised as developing countries economies have vastly improved over the last 10 years. From no kissing in Costa Rica to Gogos full of Coyote dancers or Fuglies in Thailand, the girlfriend experience has all but gone. Africa being the final frontier.
